Serving Our Community
At Willow River Gospel Chapel, we believe that faith is not only expressed in worship on Sunday mornings β it is lived out every day in the way we care for our neighbors. In a small, close-knit community like Willow River, the needs of one are the concern of all, and we take seriously the call of Christ to love our neighbors as ourselves.
Our chapel has long been a place where people turn in times of joy and in times of need. Whether it is a warm meal delivered to a family going through a difficult season, a visit to a homebound elderly neighbour, or simply a listening ear and a heartfelt prayer, the people of Willow River Gospel Chapel are committed to being the hands and feet of Jesus in our community.
We believe that the Gospel is not just a message to be preached β it is a life to be lived. And so we strive to make a tangible difference in the lives of those around us, not for recognition or reward, but because Christ first loved us and calls us to do the same for others.
Outreach Programs
Practical ways we serve and connect with the people of Willow River
Pastoral Care & Visitation
Our pastoral care ministry reaches out to the sick, the elderly, and those going through difficult times. Through personal visits, phone calls, and prayer, we ensure that no one in our community walks through hardship alone. We are here to listen, to encourage, and to point people to the hope that is found in Christ.
Community Fellowship Events
Throughout the year, we host a variety of fellowship events designed to bring people together and strengthen the bonds of community. From potluck dinners and holiday celebrations to outdoor barbecues and seasonal gatherings, these events are open to everyone β church members and neighbours alike.
Willow River Community Partnership
We are proud to partner with other local organizations and community groups for the well-being of Willow River. Whether it is supporting the volunteer fire department, collaborating on community initiatives, or simply being a good neighbour, we believe in working together for the common good of our village.
Our Willow River Home
Willow River is more than just a location β it is our home, and we are deeply grateful for the unique beauty and heritage of this community. Nestled at the confluence of the Willow River and the mighty Fraser River, our village sits in one of the most scenic corridors of central British Columbia, surrounded by towering forests, rolling hills, and the crystal-clear waters of the Upper Fraser Valley.
The community of Willow River has a rich history stretching back to the early days of British Columbia's development. Established as a station on the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway in 1914 β now part of the Canadian National Railway β the village grew up around the pioneering industries of forestry and farming. The area's strategic position near the historic Giscome Portage made it a place of significance for early transportation and commerce in the region.
Today, Willow River is a quiet, peaceful community of approximately 150 to 250 residents, part of Electoral Area F in the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George. The village is home to a volunteer fire department, a community hall, and a general store and post office. It remains a flag stop for VIA Rail's scenic JasperβPrince Rupert route, offering visitors a glimpse of one of Canada's most beautiful railway journeys.
In this beautiful, close-knit setting, Willow River Gospel Chapel is honoured to serve as a spiritual home and a gathering place for faith, fellowship, and community. We believe that God has planted us here for a purpose, and we are committed to being a blessing to the people of Willow River for generations to come.
